Counselling for Big Life Decisions and Changes (Online Support in Australia)

Are you asking yourself, "Should I have kids?", are you feeling anxiety about career change, or just feeling stuck with life decisions?

Change is a constant in life, which can mean a lot of decisions that don't always have a clear right or wrong answer and a whole lot of uncertainty.

People often seek counselling during periods of transition or when facing big life decisions such as whether to become a parent, changing careers, moving cities or countries, ending or committing to a relationship, or realising that the life the're living no longer quite fits.

These moments can bring anxiety, grief, self-doubt, and a feeling of being stuck.

Counselling offers a space to pause, reflect, and make sense of what you're navigating, without pressure to rush into decisions or influence from social circles and family.

When life feels uncertain or stuck

Big life transitions can be emotionally and practically complex. You may find yourself:

  • Going back and forth between options without clarity

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or mentally exhausted

  • Worrying about making the 'wrong' choice

  • Carrying guilt about disappointing others

  • Questioning your identity, values, or sense of direction

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or your usual confidence

Often, the difficulty isn't just the decision itself, but the emotional weight that comes with uncertainty, responsibility, and change.

How counselling can support decision-making

Counselling for life decisions isn't about being given advice or being told what to do. Instead, it provides a supportive space to:

  • Explore what's driving the decision beneath the surface

  • Understand fears, expectations, and internal conflicts

  • Clarify values, needs, and priorities

  • Work through stress, anxiety, grief, or pressure tied to change

  • Build trust in your own judgement, intuition and capacity to choose

Many people find that clarity emerges not from forcing an answer, but from feeling more grounded, regulated, and connected to themselves and their intuition.

Common transitions people seek counselling for

People seek counselling during a wide range of life changes, including:

  • Deciding whether or not to become a parent

  • Career dissatisfaction or major career changes

  • Moving, relocating, or uprooting life

  • Relationship crossroads

  • Identity shifts or changes in life direction

  • Adjusting to a new stage of life

Counselling can be helpful at any point where uncertainty or change is taking up more emotional and brain space than you'd like.
