Grief and Loss Counselling (Online Support in Australia)

Grief is often associated with the death of a loved one, but loss can take many forms — the end of a relationship, fertility challenges, the loss of a future you imagined, changes to health, identity, or life direction.

Grief does not follow a straight line, and there is no "right" or "wrong" way to experience it.

Grief is a natural response to loss, but it can feel confusing, isolating, and throw up a lot of questions and emotions.

Whether your loss is recent or long past, expected or sudden, the emotional impact can be profound and unpredictable.

Counselling offers a private space to acknowledge and explore grief at your own pace, without pressure to move on or feel a certain way. It can also be really helpful to have someone to speak to outside of your immediate social circles and family.

When is grief and loss counselling helpful?

People seek grief and loss counselling for many reasons, including:

  • The death of a partner, family member, or friend

  • Miscarriage, infertility, or pregnancy loss

  • The end of a relationship

  • Anticipatory grief during illness or life change

  • Ongoing sadness, numbness, or emotional heaviness

  • Feeling stuck in grief long after others expect you to have "moved on"

  • Guilt, anger, or conflicting emotions around loss

Grief can affect emotions, thoughts, relationships, sleep, concentration, and the body. It may come in waves, resurface unexpectedly, or sit quietly beneath daily life.

How online counselling can support grief and loss

Grief counselling is not about fixing or rushing the grieving process. Instead, it provides a supportive space to:

  • Talk openly about your loss and its impact

  • Explore complex or mixed emotions

  • Honour what has been lost

  • Make sense of how grief is showing up in your life

  • Find ways to carry grief while continuing to live meaningfully

For many people, counselling helps grief feel less overwhelming and more integrated over time.
